UK airport liquid rules

100ml or 2 litres? It depends where you fly from.

All airport rules →

100ml

per container

The limit is per container, and it’s set by the airport you’re leaving from — so your return flight may be stricter. Essential medicines, baby food and milk, and special dietary food are exempt up to 2 litres at every UK airport.

How we check

No source, no rule

  1. Official sources first. GOV.UK and the Civil Aviation Authority, then the airport, then the airline — 29 official pages checked. Blogs and forums are never the basis of a rule.
  2. Dated and linked. Every rule shows when we last checked it and links to the official page so you can confirm it yourself.
  3. Honest about gaps. If an airline or airport doesn’t state something, we say “not stated” instead of guessing.

A five-minute packing check

  1. 1
Measure your bag packed, including wheels and pockets, and check it against your airline.
  2. 2
Check liquids for every airport on your trip — out, back and any connection. Airport rules.
  3. 3
Move power banks to your hand luggage — they can’t go in the hold. Battery rules.
  4. 4
Book sports kit in advance and weigh it. Sports rules by airline.
  5. 5
Check anything unusual — razors, aerosols, medicine. Item checker.
